Tunis, February 6, 2025 – In a significant cabinet reshuffle, Tunisian President Kais Saied has dismissed Finance Minister Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia and appointed Michkat Slama Khaldi, a magistrate, as her successor. The announcement was made via the presidency’s official Facebook page overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
Michkat Slama Khaldi, the newly appointed finance minister, previously led a national commission tasked with recovering embezzled public funds.
Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia had been serving as finance minister since October 2021. Her dismissal comes at a time when Tunisia is grappling with a severe financial crisis, leading to shortages of essential commodities such as sugar, rice, coffee, and cooking gas.
The presidency did not provide specific reasons for the minister’s dismissal. This move marks the latest in a series of ministerial changes under President Saied’s administration, reflecting ongoing challenges in addressing the country’s economic difficulties.
