U.S. military veterans of Igbo descent have joined calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ahead of December 25, 2024. During a convention, they urged South-East governors to engage with President Bola Tinubu to facilitate Kanu’s release, emphasizing that his detention contributes to insecurity in the region. Prominent figures, including Bianca Ojukwu and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, have similarly advocated for his freedom, suggesting it could help reduce unrest in the South-East.
The South-East Governors’ Forum has resolved to meet with President Tinubu to discuss pressing issues, including Kanu’s detention and the insecurity plaguing the region. They aim to address the situation collaboratively while implementing broader security measures.
