President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate Todd Blanche, a prominent defense attorney who represented him in several high-profile legal cases, as the next United States Deputy Attorney General. Blanche, a former federal prosecutor with extensive experience in the Southern District of New York, is recognized for his role in defending Trump against various criminal charges in 2024. Trump described him as a key figure in addressing issues within the Department of Justice, which he referred to as a “broken system”.
If confirmed by the Senate, Blanche would serve as the second-ranking official in the Department of Justice, under the Attorney General. Emil Bove, another lawyer who has worked closely with Trump, is set to act in this role until Blanche’s confirmation is finalized.
