U.S. President Joe Biden has celebrated the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria as a “moment of historic opportunity” and an “act of justice.” Following a rapid offensive by rebel forces, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Damascus was captured, and Assad reportedly fled to Moscow. Biden pledged U.S. support for Syria’s transition to democracy, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive, sovereign government with a new constitution. The U.S. will collaborate with international partners to stabilize Syria after decades of authoritarian rule and conflict.
